SPARKS 4-H Club is one of the
newest clubs in the Carroll County 4-H program. It was formed in June
2006 after there appeared to be interest in including more technology-related
projects in the 4-H program. The SPARKS 4-H Club's main activity so far
has been robotics. Older members are working in teams to build robots for
the FIRST VEX Challenge, a middle/high school robotic competition
program. Younger members have been working with the Lego Mindstorms
robotics kits with the ultimate goal of entering future FIRST Lego League
competitions. The club also has activities in electronics, solar projects
and programming.
Members of the SPARKS 4-H Club have actively supported
the Carroll Technology Council’s CompuKids program. The club has assisted
the Carroll Technology Council on Compukids Workdays by cleaning and repairing
used computer hardware, and installing software on computers that are then
donated to local needy families and charities.
